Summer months are when your air conditioning runs the most. When your air conditioning runs more it will increase your energy costs. Here are some tips on how to reduce your energy costs during the summer.

Turn Up Your Thermostat

Setting your thermostat to higher temperatures during the summer months can help you reduce energy costs. You can shave off 1-3% of your electric bill with every degree that’s set above 72 degrees on your thermostat. Keeping your thermostat set to the mid-to-high 70′s makes for optimal energy savings and comfort. Running fans throughout your home at these temperatures helps with cooling and air flow while also saving you money. Setting your home’s temperature to low-to-mid 80′s when you’re not home is a another great way to save.

Other Helpful Tips For Saving Energy

  • Replace old or dirty home air filters. This increases air flow and reduces energy consumption
  • Use cold water to wash your laundry
  • Never leave on lights, electronic devices and appliances if they’re not being used
  • Only run your dishwasher when it’s full
  • Use your microwave when cooking. It use 66% less energy than an electric stove
  • Increase your attic’s insulation
  • Add window shading to your home
